SoftCo Foundation supports the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund

SoftCo has further extended its commitment to supporting worthy and charitable causes with a New Year’s donation of €10,000 to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. SoftCo are longstanding supporters of the charity, with our own Killian McCarthy having competed in the Corinthian Challenge the last three years, helping to raise much needed funds and awareness for the organization.

Irish Injured Jockeys General Manager, Michael Higgins, along with twelve-time Irish National Hunt Champion Jockey and Chairman of Irish Injured Jockeys, Ruby Walsh, were on hand to accept the donation at Tramore racecourse on New Year’s Day.

Despite having a long and illustrious racing career, Walsh, himself, has sustained a number of injuries over the years, with periods of care and rehabilitation having been required. Just last season he suffered two leg breaks at both Punchestown and the Cheltenham Festival, but has since returned to full fitness.

“The horse racing industry is one that provides both employment and entertainment to a large number of people, but also provides high risks to jockeys on a daily basis. The work that Irish Injured Jockeys do in creating awareness and raising funds to help support jockeys in their care and rehabilitation is exceptional. They are a cause that is particularly close to our hearts and we are delighted to be able to extend our support.”

Jim Coffey, Co-Founder, SoftCo

Irish Injured Jockeys was set up in 2014 by jockeys for injured jockeys, both past and present. Their aim is to increase awareness and raise vital funds to support the care, rehabilitation and welfare of injured jockeys. With horse racing posing such high risks to jockeys on a daily basis, the organization relies heavily on regular and consistent public fundraising.

The SoftCo Foundation was established with the goal of providing support to projects worldwide that could make a difference to people’s lives. The goal of the foundation is to take a practical approach and to provide assistance to those who need it the most. The foundation supports many different charities, including Irish Injured Jockeys, Guy’s Cancer and CMRF Crumlin.
