The SoftCo sponsored Ireland Men’s Hockey Team have qualified to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Ireland became the 12th and final team to qualify for the Men’s Olympic Hockey tournament next summer in Paris by virtue of their 4-3 win over Korea.
Goals from Matthew Nelson, Ben Johnson, Johnny McKee and Shane O’Donoghue secured the win for Ireland in an epic game, Ireland building 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 leads through the contest, but Korea hitting back every time. Their qualification means they will test themselves against the best in the world at the Olympic Games, having made their most recent appearance in the 2016 Games in Rio.
Commenting on Olympic Qualification Head Coach Mark Tumelty;
“We’ve done it. I had a lot of belief in this group. I did think though it might come down to this final game before the tournament. The guys have delivered and we are on our way to the games. Very pleased for the players, we had to rebuild the squad after Vancouver and this a reward for all the work they put in and all the sacrifices they have made to get there.”

The SoftCo sponsored Ireland Women’s Hockey Team made it to the third place playoff against Team GB with only one Olympic qualification spot up for grabs. In a tight contest the Green Army unfortunately came up just short in a 2-1 defeat. Congratulations to the Women’s Team on a superb tournament with great performances throughout.
